OLG Charity Gaming – Jackpot City Gaming St. Thomas

We are a proud participant of OLG Charitable Gaming through Jackpot City Gaming Entertainment in St Thomas! This is our one and only fundraiser that benefits our club tremendously! Proceeds from our participation all go towards covering our ice fees and some coach fee expenses. We rely on the commitment of our members to volunteer a couple hours of their time at Jackpot City Gaming in St. Thomas in order to fulfill our participation in the program. This helps keep registration fees low and supports the local youth in our community. In fact, this is an excellent program that supports many local communities! We are proud to be part of it!

Canskate is a dynamic learn to skate program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development.  This program focuses on the development of three fundamental movements (balance, agility and control) organized into six stages of learning that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating.  This program is for beginners of all ages, children or adults looking to take part in any ice sport or to skate as a recreational activity.  Lessons are given in a group format with a coach to skater ratio of a maximum of 1:10. Skaters progress at their own rate with badges being awarded once the skills on each stage are mastered.  CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory for skaters in stages 1 – 5.  Private or semiprivate lessons can also be arranged with one of our certified professional coaches at your discretion.

Star 1 to 5 offers a solid development pathway for skaters who are entering a figure skating program for the first time.  Skaters are encouraged to acquire a skill set that will allow them to reach the highest level of proficiency that their unique talent and commitment will allow.  There is a free skating bias at this stage as skills learned in free skating will transfer easily to the other disciplines.  Skaters are encouraged to move through the assessments at their own rate.  This program is designed to encourage skaters and coaches to strive for the highest quality of skill execution as a strong foundation at this level will enable skaters to progress more quickly in the higher levels of figure skating.  The entry level of Star 1 is designed to meet the exit level of stage 6 in Canskate.  It is imperative that all skaters beginning Star 1 have the skills of stages 5 and 6 in Canskate.
